Sheila Brown

I have taken art classes from several artists over the years, but always remember the advice “to get away from your teachers as fast as possible!”  I believe this philosophy instills an artists own style and creativity.

I grew up drawing and coloring.  My father would bring home reams of paper from the paper mill where he worked.  I can still recall my mother’s steady hand painting paint-by-number ballerinas.  Most of my preliminary sketches are done in the dim, back corner of the stage at Hogs and Kisses in Lake Geneva, where my husband plays piano and brass or at home while listening to him play classical piano.  Good music intertwines with the drawing process.  I draw and paint what I like and know best, birds, plants, boats and scenery.

The Lake Geneva News has printed some of my local photographs.  I like to exhibit at the Walworth County Fair and have won ribbons for watercolor paintings, a first prize for a plastic milk container sculpture of a cow, front cover of June Is Dairy Month AND a first for an original duct tape surfboard, autographed by Mike Love of The Beach Boys!  All great fun! I have also participated in the SMILES and Lakeland Animal Shelter art auctions.

I have been a member of Geneva Lake Arts Foundation for many years.  In the summer  I spend my ‘down’ time completing artwork at Big Foot Golf Range in Walworth.  I am thankful to have grown up in northern Minnesota and now live in fairly rural Wisconsin, surrounded by woods, lakes, wildlife and good people.
