Class Description:

This class is designed for those who have done some painting with Acrylics, but want to further their acrylic painting experience in a fun, relaxed environment that promotes individualized learning.  Enjoy creating original paintings on stretched canvas, wood or plexiglass that reflect vibrant to soft colors through line, shape, texture and dimension.  Demonstrations and techniques will be presented and practiced during class.  Basic drawing and composition lessons will be incorporated into each class.  Each class participants can expect to take home a painting, either a completed or in-progress piece for additional work at home or during the next class.

Week 1: Begin by designing and lightly “mapping out” a composition with pencil on canvas that creates a balance of positive/negative space around a main object or focal point.  Getting started techniques as we embark on the sessions first painting.

Week 2: Principles of color will be discussed and demonstrated.  How color hues and line intensity add dimension and volume to a painting while defining areas of light and dark in the background.

Week 3: Demonstration on how to correct mistakes or make alterations on an in-progress painting.  Discussions on sealing, framing and displaying your completed work of art.  Introduction to the next project for painting acrylic compositions on wood and plexiglass surfaces.

Week 4: Demonstration on different outcomes from painting with acrylic on wood, and the translucent effect of painting with acrylic on plexiglass.  Both of these surfaces creates a different effect than painting on canvas.  All participants will continue to receive individualized attention on whatever surface is chosen (canvas, wood, plexiglass).

Week 5: Complete and seal paintings or begin a smaller painting composition to work on or complete in class.  Question and answer session will wrap up our 5-week Painting with Acrylics Class.

Meet The Instructor:

I am a multimedia artist who enjoys Art in all its forms and enjoys teaching and working with people of all ages. I received an Art/Art Education degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Throughout my years as an artist, I have enjoyed my career as an art teacher in the Wisconsin Public Schools system along with my teaching of private and small-group Art classes to children, adults and parent/child workshop classes. My focus as an instructor is to foster the individual creativity of each student as I introduce specific skills they can apply to their Art.

I am a long time resident of Lake Geneva and have been a member of the Geneva Lake Arts Foundation since 2019. I regularly exhibit my art in watercolor, pastel, mixed media and acrylic at Gallery 223 where I have been an art instructor for both children and adults for the past several years. I am looking forward to working with my next group of students!
