Jill Young was born in Racine, Wisconsin, in 1968. Her first experience as an artist was as a child; Jill was naturally gifted. She was often the child called on to create works for teachers. In high school, she earned money by drawing transparencies for teachers. She was coached by her art teachers, and the best advice she ever received was, “Draw what you see.” Jill did not have the right circumstances to study art formally in an art school. She went on to study through practical experience, learning through trial and error, and self-learning. Jill finds art inspiration in everything and has developed many different styles. She paints for joy and whatever inspires her. Jill had the opportunity to travel in her early 20s, having lived in Southern California, Washington DC, and Guam, all before she was 30. Jill now lives in the quiet Wisconsin small town of Burlington where she spent her summers as a youth. She lives there with her four children and a myriad of family pets. Jill has undergone treatment for breast cancer and is near the end of her treatment cycle. Jill works primarily in acrylic, watercolor, and alcohol inks but is continually trying new mediums. Jill currently works from her home in Burlington.
