An award-winning artist, Nancie has spent her lifetime painting in oil & pastel. Education: Univ of IL-BFA in Painting, where she was a James Scholar; Eastern IL Univ-MA in Painting, served as Instructor of Art 3 years; named 2009 Distinguished Alum of the Graduate School and 2016 Distinguished Alum of the University. She was awarded the Master Circle Medallion by the Int’l Assoc. of Pastel Societies in 2015, their Eminent Pastelist distinction in 2018, and is also a Master Signature member of the Pastel Society of America and the Chicago Pastel Painters. She teaches across the US and internationally and is on the faculty for the Plein Air Convention and the IAPS Convention. The Jack Richeson Co. offers her Urban Landscape Set and Atmospheric Landscape sets of 80 hand-selected pastels thru their site and on Amazon. Streamline Publishing filmed 3 videos of her painting techniques for Lilidahl DVD release. She has been named the 2020 Guest of Honor by the French Pastel Society, where a show of her work will be featured in Giverny, France. Mertz has traveled to nearly 20 countries and around the US for inspiration, however, Chicago remains her favorite city to explore and paint, where she was twice named “Artist of the Year”. Collectors marvel at the beauty she finds in the urban setting and have said she "softens the edges of the city". Nancie produces approx. 150 paintings each year, most on-site. Her work was featured on the cover of Pastel Journal in Feb. 2015, along with a 7 page article on her work and a feature article was in Plein Air Magazine. She was the 2011 Artist-In-Residence for the IN Dunes Nat’l Park System. See her work on many of the Chicago-themed TV shows such as the Good Wife, Chicago Fire and others. Her husband, Ron, publishes her sold originals in Giclée prints & cards and they own ArtDeTriumph & Artful Framer Studios at 2938 N Clark in Chicago, open 7 days a week. WORKSHOP APPLICATION- INFORMATION AND FEES
The Geneva Lake Arts Foundation (GLAF) (a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization) is proud to present Nancie King Mertz for a weekend online Zoom pastel art workshop. The Zoom link for the class will be sent out prior to the first day. Open to all levels of artists. Class size is limited so don’t delay sending in your registration. The workshop times are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day with an online critique from 4-5pm. Nancie will do a demo from 10am to 11:30 am with a break for lunch and then students will paint from 12:30 to 4:00 pm then there will be an an online critique from 4:00 to 5:00 pm each day. Students can send questions via chat during the session and send Nancie their work in progress for suggestions or corrections.
 

Fee: $200 tuition for GLAF members. $225 for non-members. Class is limited to the first 15 registered students.

Refunds

No refunds of any kind will be made for no shows or for cancellations made less than 30 days prior to the beginning of the class. Students who stop attending during class without prior approval will forfeit all claims for tuition refund or credit.


Cancellations

Geneva Lake Arts Foundation has the right to cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment or due to circumstances beyond their control. If cancellation is necessary, all tuition will be refunded. If space is available, transfer options will be offered at no extra fee to the student. Students who cancel after registration will be charged a $75.00 fee for each canceled workshop. Students who wish to cancel must notify the chairperson* for this event by telephone. Email or phone messages left on answering machine are not acceptable forms of cancellation. The remaining balance of workshop funds will be returned if cancellation occurs no less than 30 days prior to the beginning of the class.
